NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women's volleyball and head coach Fred Chao announced the team's 2024 schedule on Monday.

The upcoming season will see the Monarchs host two tournaments and play in two more. Non-conference play will see ODU squaring off with teams from the A10, AAC, ACC, Big 10, Big East, Big South, CAA, Ivy League, MAAC, MEAC and Patriot League.

“We have a great Fall schedule," said Chao. "We have a diverse group of opponents, and opportunities to compete against unfamiliar teams. We have several in-state challenges, as well as tough regional match ups. Our home tournaments will feature mostly first-time visitors to Norfolk. Overall, our non-conference schedule will showcase teams that are well-coached and will prepare us for our challenging Sun Belt schedule.”

After hosting Christopher Newport for an exhibition on Aug. 23, the Monarchs open their 2024 campaign by hosting the Fourth Annual Quest for the Crown on Aug. 30-31. The first day of the tournament will pit ODU against Marist and UTSA, and ODU will take on Virginia in the final match of the second day.

Old Dominion will play at William & Mary on Sept. 3 before heading up to Villanova, Pennsylvania to play in Villanova’s tournament on Sept. 5-7. ODU starts off the trip that Thursday against Princeton, then returns for a meeting with Loyola (Md.) on Friday before facing the host Wildcats on Saturday.

The Monarchs then head to Fairfax, Virginia on Sept. 12-14 to compete in George Mason’s tournament. After playing the host Patriots on Thursday, ODU is slated to play Quinnipiac on Friday and Navy on Saturday.

ODU rounds out its non-conference portion of the schedule on Sept. 19-21 when it hosts the Old Dominion Invitational. Thursday’s first match will feature the Monarchs and the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. ODU is then back in action the following night against Radford and concludes the Invitational late Saturday afternoon against UMES.

“Every match in the Sun Belt will be tough,” continued Chao. “The strength of the conference was acknowledged by the number of teams selected into the NCAA and NIVC Tournaments. While we will take each match as an opportunity to be “1-0”, we have circled the conference tournament as a target for earning wins that have eluded us the past two years and for making a run at a championship."

Sun Belt Conference play will feature two matches each weekend as the Monarchs will play all six of their East Division rivals. First up is a road trip to Georgia Southern (Sept. 27-28) before the team returns home to host Coastal Carolina (Oct. 4-5) and App State (Oct. 11-12). The Monarchs will play at Georgia State (Oct. 18-19) and James Madison (Nov. 7-8) and host Marshall (Nov. 1-2). The conference schedule also includes two weekends against West Division teams: ODU will travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to play Southern Miss (Oct. 25-26) and wraps up the regular season at home versus Arkansas State (Nov. 14-15).

The 2024 Sun Belt Conference Championship will be held at the Foley Events Center in Foley, Alabama on Nov. 20-24. Seeding for the tournament will be determined by winning percentage against divisional foes only, with the top two seeds from each division earning automatic byes to the quarterfinal round. The winner of the tournament will earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
