Good afternoon everybody. Good afternoon to all our 12th Monarchs out there in Monarch Nation. Coming off a tough, very hard fought loss at Virginia Tech. Extremely proud of our team, we went up there shorthanded against one of the best teams in the nation and love the way we competed this entire game. Really appreciative of the tremendous fan support we had from our 12th Monarchs. We traveled strong. They were loud and proud throughout and our team recognized that as did I and we are all very appreciative for that. It felt like down 3-0 with six minutes to go that we had a great opportunity to compete and win this game, but we just could not overcome the play differential. Virginia Tech had 89 plays, we had 50 plays and that was just too much for a team that personnel wise we were already shorthanded going in there with injuries. We just needed to get something positive to happen early in this game and we could not. Special teams, Bailey Cate continues to perform very well. He punted for a good average, he¿s number two in Conference USA and that will continue to help us as we build on that for field position. I felt our defense played really well early in the first 24 minutes. Virginia Tech, a team averaging 45 points a game, had three points, but we just got worn down. We just did not have enough without the ability to score or convert on offense. Offensively, the story of the game is 2-for-15 on third and fourth down. The first drive of the game we got a fourth and one at midfield and can¿t convert. They covered us extremely well, we could not get off their man coverage to have enough time to get in some routes. There were opportunities there, but we just didn¿t play well enough outside. In his first start, I thought Steven Williams handled the atmosphere, the environment, going against one of the best defenses in the nation. His poise was outstanding. When you

Good afternoon everybody. Good afternoon to all our 12th Monarchs out there in Monarch Nation. Coming off a disappointing loss at home to North Carolina on Saturday. That puts our record at 2-1. Really disheartened with the way the game started. We had such a good crowd, atmosphere; everybody was in to it. I know I was excited, our players were excited. We just got off to such a poor start in this game, particularly on offense. We didn't have a first down in the first quarter. Three consecutive three and outs and that really put us behind not only field position, but defensively we were on the field for too many plays in the first quarter. We had a poor punt that cost us field position and a turnover. It just felt like everything that could go wrong at the start of this game did and yet we were only down 11-0 after the first quarter even with as badly as we started. There's no doubt in my mind our kids were excited to play, they wanted to play well and then I felt like the game really changed when we made the switch at quarterback. That gave us a new energy and we played much better after that. Special teams wise, we just got off to a poor start. We had a hold on a big return by Isaiah Harper that would have got us the ball at the 50-yard line. We had a 24-yard punt from Bailey Cate who has been punting like one of the best in the nation. After the first quarter he played much better, we played much better on special teams after that. Nick Rice, our freshman, hit a 48-yard field goal that would have been good from much farther. Defensively, the kids just tried to do too much particularly early in this game. We try to stick with the theme of just do your 1/11th on defense. We did not and that put us in some tough spots. Felt like we played much better about midway through the second quarter. We started to play better football defensively. Denzel Williams was outstandin

Good afternoon everybody. Good afternoon to of all our 12th Monarchs out there in Monarch Nation. We are coming off a 17-7 win at UMass this week. The mission accomplished. We went 1-0, which gets our overall record to 2-0. It's always difficult to win on the road as we talked about as a team going into this game. When you travel and play on the road, you have to figure out a way to create your own momentum and the best way to create momentum on the road is don't turn the ball over, which we did, and not to allow big momentum plays. There were really only two significant momentum plays against us in this game. One was the long touchdown pass they had to open the second half, and the other one was when they stopped us on fourth down at their one-yard line. We did a really good job overall in this game with those momentum plays. Defensively we were outstanding. We shut them out in the first half only allowing 96 yards on 24 plays. We've allowed three points in the first half of our first two games, and that is very difficult to do. Our guys have played really good football. We broke our own school record for sacks which lasted only a week. We had seven against Albany last week and we had eight this week in the game against Massachusetts. We're getting really good play out of our front four right now, which is really our front eight. We're rotating two groups through in the defensive line about every four plays. We rotate to try and keep those guys fresh coming off the ball, and having tremendous success in the front, which is obviously helping all aspects of our defense. The third significant thing in this game is we ran the ball well. We didn't run the ball well week one; this week we had 197 yards rushing, which is the number we had last year when we led Conference USA in rushing. If we can continue to build on that, being able to run the ball, play good defense an
