ODU Football Notebook: A Look at the Running Backs

Old Dominion re-started football in 2009, and offensively was a balanced attack that relied on quarterback Thomas DeMarco to both run and pass. DeMarco led the team in rushing that year with nearly 900 yards and passed for another 1,921. Since that first season, the offense morphed into a throw it around the field type offense with quarterback Taylor Heinicke, who is currently in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings. The offense turned full circle in 2016, as running backs Ray Lawry and Jeremy Cox combined for 1,987 yards and helped ODU set a new single-season rushing record.

Football Set to Begin Spring Practice April 1

NORFOLK, Va. Old Dominion University spring football practice will start on Saturday, April 1 and run through April 22, ODU Head Coach Bobby Wilder announced on Thursday. The Monarchs will host the annual spring game at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium on Saturday, April 15 at 3 p.m.

Wilder Named Tom Fergusson Memorial Award Winner

The first two-time winner of the award, Wilder led Old Dominion to a 10-3 record in 2016 and a 24-20 win over Eastern Michigan in the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl. The game was the first bowl game for the school, as ODU is one of five schools to have a perfect record in bowl games.
