ODU Rowing Travels to the Head of the Charles Regatta

CAMBRIDGE, Mass - The Old Dominion women's rowing team travels to Cambridge, Mass. to compete in the 53rd Head of the Charles Regatta Oct. 21 and 22. The Head of the Charles is the world's biggest two-day rowing event. There are over 790 clubs competing in the national event.

Monarchs Invest in Financial Literacy Training

Norfolk, Va. -- Over 100 Old Dominion University sophomore student-athletes were on hand Wednesday night for the annual financial literacy seminar presented by the ODU Student-Athlete Development Team. The event was split into two hour-long sessions and engaged students in several aspects of financial literacy, including money management, budgeting, basic investing principles, and other key areas. The event featured special guest speaker, Eric Smith, was the first-ever financial literacy speaker to be included on the NCAA's Speaker Registry. Smith has also presented at several NFL rookie camps including the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers. Smith was also an invited presenter at the NCAA-NFL Life Skills Summit, the NCAA Leadership Forum, and the 2013 NBA Draft Program. Students were taught how to write a check and balance a checkbook. In a digital world, some basic financial skills such as writing checks have become a lost art. A large portion of the audience admitted they have never written a check - Sam White was one of those students. "I learned how to properly write a check so which is very helpful for when I need to use them someday," White said. Throughout the evening, students also engaged in learning and understanding basic financial devices such as checking accounts, savings accounts, money market accounts, and certificate of deposits. One of the main focuses of the night was budgeting, a crucial skill for all college students. Each student was given a budget sheet that Smith walked through how to complete with the opportunity for students to ask questions specific to their needs. Brem Named Conference USA Swimmer of the Week

Ashley Brem went 4-for-4 over the weekend, winning all four individual races she participated in. Brem won the 100 breaststroke at UNCW with a time of 1:05.20, and the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.81. Against Gardner-Webb and Campbell, Brem won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.99, and the 200 breaststroke in 2:22.31.

NORFOLK, Va. - A local kid from Virginia Beach, all Richardson knew was wrestling. In his sophomore and junior years of high school at Cox, Richardson captured two state championships before traveling to New Jersey to wrestle for the prestigious Blair Academy, where he became runner-up in the National Prep Tournament. Richardson was a well-sought out recruit in 2011, his future path would not be like any other, though. Plagued with injuries dating back to his youth wresting days, Richardson would go years wrestling in pain and unhappy.
