MIAMI, Fla. - The Old Dominion men's basketball team (14-4, 5-1 C-USA) defeated FIU (8-11, 2-4 C-USA) by a 64-54 score on Thursday night at FIU Arena. ODU has now won nine of its last 10 games.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Six Monarchs have been highlighted in the first Division I coaches' panel ranking. In part of the mid way point of the 2017-2018 season, the NCAA released the first of four coaches' panel ranking on Thursday morning. Michael McGee (125), Caleb Richardson (133), Alex Madrigal (141), Kenan Carter (149), Larry Early (157), and Seldon Wright (174) are among the ODU student-athletes included in the first ranking.
The Old Dominion women's basketball team earned its first Conference USA win of the season on Thursday, defeating Marshall, 69-53, at the Ted Constant Center.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Old Dominion University all-time leading rusher Ray Lawry will play in the prestigious East-West Shrine Game on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the NFL Network. "We are so very excited as a program for Ray Lawry playing in this prestigious game as he pursues his dream of playing in the NFL," ODU head coach Bobby Wilder said. Lawry played in eight games this season for the Monarchs, rushing 132 times for 742 yards and seven touchdowns, while catching 11 passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. He added four 100-yard rushing games on the year. For his career, Lawry finished with 4,080 yards on 660 carries and ended his career as the all-time FBS leader in rushing yards in the state of Virginia. He is tied for third in C-USA history with 45 rushing touchdowns and ninth in rushing yards. Lawry becomes the second Monarch to play in the East-West Shrine Game, joining quarterback Taylor Heinicke.
Victoria Olivarez, a senior on the Old Dominion women's tennis team, was named the Conference USA Player of the Week on Wednesday, as announced by C-USA officials.
The Old Dominion University women's tennis team (2-0) will travel to Charlottesville for a Thursday, Jan. 18 match against Virginia (0-0) at 5:00 p.m. EST at the Boar's Head Sports Club. Then on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1:00 p.m., the Monarchs will welcome SEC member Tennessee (0-0) to the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. Admission for all home ODU matches is FREE.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Old Dominion University swimmer Ethan Apisa was named the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Swimmer of the Week, the CCSA announced on Tuesday. On Saturday against William and Mary, Apisa broke the JC Scrap Chandler pool record in the 1000 free with a first place time of 9:26.58, nearly 12 seconds ahead of second place. He broke the record held by Jimmy Sullivan of 9:28.18, set in 1999. Apisa added a third place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:41.70. He becomes the fourth swimmer this season to win the weekly CCSA award, joining Anton Mikaelsson, Filip Svedberg and Nick Wukovits.
The Old Dominion Athletic Foundation (ODAF) announced today that 2017 was a record breaking fundraising year for ODU Athletics. Over $12 Million in new gifts and pledges was raised in support of ODU Athletics during the 2017 calendar year.
