NORFOLK, Va. - Junior Katie Miller and Sophomore Anna Davis on the ODU women's lacrosse team were both chosen to be campus ambassadors for the remainder of their time at ODU. It is competitive enough that only 15 students were chosen as ambassadors out of more than 35 applicants.
Norfolk, Va. -- Over 100 Old Dominion University junior and senior student-athletes filed into the North Café on Wednesday night, ready to hit the ground running at the first-ever Career Combine Training Camp. The event was split into two sessions and held in preparation for the Monarch Career Combine, which will take place on Nov. 7 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The event featured presentations from the ODU Student-Athlete Development team as well as a special guest presentation from the Office of Career Development Services. Throughout the evening, students engaged in resume building, networking, elevator speeches, and job selection processes. One of the main focuses of the night was improving the communication skills necessary to network and interact with future employers. Sana Tufail, a senior women's golfer, felt the practice was very beneficial. A speech pathology and audiology major, Tufail was not shy in volunteering for several speaking opportunities in front of the group, which encouraged others to step up to the plate as well. "I enjoyed the interactive activities where people were given the chance to practice their elevator speeches, as it helped simulate situations they might experience when going for a job interview," Tufail said. Other students also appreciated the opportunity to polish their speaking skills. "My favorite part was the elevator pitch segment. I enjoyed learning how to present myself in less than 30 seconds and also enjoyed seeing how other people do it," Football senior Rob Thompson said. Presentations by the Office of Career Development Services focused on teaching student-athletes how to utilize skills gained through athletics into their professional careers and job searches. MALIBU, Cali. – Adam Moundir of the Old Dominion men's tennis team won his first round match before falling in three sets to the No. 3 ranked player in the nation at the 2017 ITA Oracle Masters at the Malibu Racquet Club. Moundir earned a bid to play in the tournament after being named the Conference USA Player of the Year last season.
