NORFOLK, Va. Old Dominion University senior center Nick Clarke was named to the 2018 Rimington Trophy Watch List, the Rimington Trophy committee announced on Wednesday. The Rimington Trophy is given to the top center in the country. A three-year starter at center, Clarke has started 34 career games for the Monarchs, including 31-straight starts. He earned C-USA honorable mention honors last season and earned C-USA All-Freshman honors in 2015. It is the third-consecutive season that Clarke has been named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List. Clarke was one of five C-USA centers on the list, including Marshall's Levi Brown, North Texas's Sosaia Mose, UAB's Lee Dufour and UTEP's Derron Gatewood.

NORFOLK, Va. Old Dominion University football had 11 football student-athletes named to the Athlon Sports 2018 preseason All-Conference USA team. Seniors Miles Fox and Oshane Ximines were named to the first-team all defensive squad, while Isaiah Harper earned first-team kick returner honors, and Darrell Brown first-team punt returner. Running back Jeremy Cox and center Nick Clarke were named to the offensive second-team, while Jonathan Duhart and Isaac Weaver were named to the third-team. Safety Sean Carter was added to third-team defense, while linebacker Marvin Branch was named to the fourth-team. Fox led all ODU defensive linemen and finished fourth on the team last season with 57 tackles. He notched a career-high 5.5 sacks and nine tackles for loss. Ximines, a 2017 first-team All-C-USA performer, broke his own single-season school record with 8.5 sacks and tied the school record for forced fumbles in a season with four. He also owns the ODU career record with 21 sacks. Harper was named the 2017 Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year after returning three kickoffs for touchdowns and finished 10th in FBS in kick return average with 29.1 yards per return. Brown earned first-team All-C-USA honors as a punt returner last season, averaging 8.4 yards per return with a long of 31. Cox rushed for 621 yards and four touchdowns last season, and as a sophomore in 2016, rushed for 685 yards and 13 touchdowns. Clarke, a C-USA honorable mention performer last season, is a three-year starter at center and has started 31-straight games for the Monarchs. Duhart started the first two games last season but suffered a season-ending injury in the win at UMass. For his career, he ranks sixth in school history with 109 receptions and is sixth with 1,619 receiving yards. The NCAA released its' APR (Academic Progress Report) scores for the 2016-17 academic year and three ODU teams were recognized by the NCAA for their outstanding 2016-17 four-year scores. Baseball, Men's Basketball and Women's Lacrosse earned the honor. To earn this recognition teams must rank in the top 10 percent of all squads in each particular sport. In addition, a school-record eight ODU teams recorded a perfect Single-Year APR score of 1000. Baseball, Men's Basketball, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Swimming and Men's and Women's Tennis each achieved a perfect single year APR score. "The fact that these student-athletes on our teams are being recognized for their achievement of excellence over a four-year period is truly outstanding," stated Old Dominion University President John R. Broderick. "The commitment our men and women have made toward excelling in the classroom is something that makes our entire ODU community proud." Six Monarch programs recorded their highest four-year APR score ever. Baseball, Men's Basketball, Football, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Swimming and Women's Tennis achieved their highest APR scores ever. "We have made a concerted effort to improve our APR scores over the past several years," added ODU Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig, "I want to thank the student-athletes, coaches and academic support team for their hard work in achieving these important milestones." The APR started in 2003-04 and is a term-by-term measure of Eligibility and Retention of scholarship student-athletes compiled over a four-year period. This year's APR is based on scores submitted for 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17.
