Grant Gardner became a full-time member of the ODU Athletics staff as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications in 2013. He was promoted to Associate Director of Athletic Communications in 2015.
Grant assists all 18 intercollegiate teams at Old Dominion and is the primary contact for men’s basketball, women’s soccer and men’s/women’s tennis. He is responsible for publicizing and promoting teams via the website, releases, interviews and social media, while serving as the liaison with the local/national media. He is also in charge of nominating coaches/student-athletes for various awards/honors and handles particular publications such as media guides.
During the 2014-15 basketball season, Grant provided color commentary on ESPN Radio for numerous Lady Monarchs games. During the 2015-16 season for the men's basketball team, he served as color commentator on ESPN Radio for all of the games of the inaugural Vegas 16 Tournament, in which Old Dominion won.
From 2009 through 2011, Grant was a student-manager/intern with the ODU men’s basketball team, when the Monarchs claimed back-to-back CAA crowns and appeared in consecutive NCAA tournaments, highlighted by Old Dominion's upset over No. 6 seeded Notre Dame in New Orleans.
As a graduate student at Old Dominion in the fall of 2012, Grant completed an internship within the Athletic Communications office.
Born in Midlothian, Va., Grant is a double-alum of Old Dominion University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in sport management and a minor in business management in 2011. He also earned a Master of Science in Education with honors (3.9 GPA) in 2012 from ODU, as a member of the National Honor Society.
