Curtis Whaley
Position: Assistant Director of Sports Performance
Hometown: New Bern, N.C.

Curtis Whaley became a member of ODU Athletics in the summer of 2016 as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance, working primarily with baseball, wrestling, men’s and women’s tennis, as well as sailing.

Whaley spent the 2015-2016 school year at Gardner-Webb University as Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning. He worked directly with baseball, women’s basketball, women’s volleyball and assisted with football.

In 2014-2015, Whaley spent the school year at the Virginia Military Institute as the Head Strength Coach for Olympic sports; working directly with baseball, men’s lacrosse, water polo, swim and dive, wrestling and men’s and women’s soccer.

He was at Gardner-Webb University in 2013-2014 as a Graduate Assistant, working primarily with baseball, track and field, tennis, softball and golf, while also assisting with football.

From 2007-2013, Whaley served as the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at South Central High School, while also serving as an assistant baseball and football coach.

He is a graduate of East Carolina University, where he earned a degree in Health Education, before earning a master’s degree from Gardner-Webb in Sports Science.

Whaley played baseball for two years at Lenoir Community College, where he played second base.

He is certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS), Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (SCCC), as well as the United States Weightlifting (USAW).

Whaley is originally from New Bern, N.C. and currently resides in Virginia Beach, Va.
