Spring Practice Update - Practice #14:

The number one thing that continues to stand out to the coaching staff from Saturday's spring game just how much of the mantra "Think Fast, Play Fast" was shown and the speed on both sides of the ball.

"We're trying to be the fastest team in the country in FCS," said head coach Bobby Wilder. "That's what we've worked on with strength and conditioning, that's what we've worked on in practice, and I'm so excited with that part of our game."

"Very few mistakes on either side of the ball," he continued. "Very few turnovers, very few penalties, very few missed assignments. It's obvious to me that our coaches are getting them coached up well and our players are taking to the coaching."

The final two practices of spring ball are what the Monarchs are calling "Fall Ball Practices" specifically preparing for opponents coming up this season.

Wednesday the Monarchs spent time working on Villanova's defense for the offense.

Even with the 37-14 victory over the Wildcats last fall, Wilder was quick to note that Villanova will be vastly improved team with experienced defense returning.

"Villanova is somewhat unique in what they do defensively," he mentioned. "They play a 3-3-5 defense. It was very important for our offense to get a look at that."

For the defense, they practiced against the Georgia Southern offense and the triple option.

"The way the season ended giving up 55 points and 607 yards we knew we needed to give our players some confidence against that scheme," said Wilder.

The Monarchs have one more spring practice left and will take the turf on Friday morning. They will continue fall ball drills focusing on James Madison, Towson, and William & Mary.
