Monarchs Report For Preseason Camp Aug. 13

Norfolk, Va. - A new era of Old Dominion University football will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 13 when head coach Bobby Wilder and his staff welcomes an anticipated 82 players to campus for preseason camp. The Monarchs, who last fielded a team in 1940, will practice this season in preparation for a full slate of games in 2009.

Players will check in to their dorms, receive physicals and participate in team meetings on Wednesday. Thursday morning will consist of getting fitted for equipment, fitness testing and taking photos and the Monarchs will hit the field in the afternoon at 3 p.m. for the first of 13 preseason practice sessions before the start of classes on Aug. 25. Beginning Friday at 9:05 a.m. the team will practice once a day through Monday, then hold two-a-day sessions on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, Aug. 23. Single sessions will begin at 9:05 a.m., while two-a-day practices will be held at 8 a.m. and 3:35 p.m.

All practice sessions will be open to the media throughout preseason camp and during the season, however members of the media are asked to contact Jamar Ross or Carol Hudson in the Athletic Public Relations Office at 757-683-3372 if they plan on attending. Coach Wilder and requested student-athletes are available for interviews at the conclusion of practice or by special arrangement.
