NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion University athletic director Dr. Wood Selig announced that the Monarchs' home football games with Georgia State on Oct. 23 and VMI on Nov. 13 will be televised on Cox Communications and The Comcast Network (TCN) throughout the east and southeast.
Kick off times for both games have been moved to 3:30 p.m. at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium. Cox Communications will produce the games and air locally on Cox 11 in Hampton Roads. In addition, ODU's Sept. 18 contest at home at 7 p.m. with William and Mary will be broadcast on Comcast Sportsnet as part of the CAA TV package.
"We appreciate the interest Cox and The Comcast Network continue to show in televising ODU athletic events. Given that we expect another season of sold out football games, television is a great avenue for ODU fans who can't purchase tickets to follow the Monarchs," said ODU athletic director Dr. Wood Selig. "Having our games broadcast out of our local market area also serves to expand our spectator footprint and allows us to continue to expand and grow our Monarch fan base."
Georgia State fields its first football team this season, under the helm of former Alabama head coach Bill Curry. The Panthers will join the CAA football league in 2012. The Oct. 23 contest is part of ODU's weekend Homecoming activities, which include a campus parade at 10 am, and the men's basketball team's annual Blue-White intra-squad scrimmage at noon at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
VMI and ODU will square off on Nov. 13 after meeting last season in Lexington. The Monarchs downed the Keydets 42-35 in ODU's highest combined scoring game of the 2009 season. The victory gave Old Dominion its sixth-straight victory heading into the 2010 campaign.
"The Monarchs game that we produced for Cox 11 and the ODU network last year was very popular among viewers," said Gary McCollum, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cox Virginia. "We are delighted to support the school and to provide this exceptional local programming to Cox customers in Hampton Roads, Roanoke and Northern Va."
