COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Old Dominion (1-3, 0-1 MAC) wrestling team fell to conference foe; No. 4 Missouri (7-0, 1-0 MAC) on Saturday afternoon in the Hearnes Center, 36-3. Wins by nine Tiger wrestlers propelled Missouri over the Monarchs.

This road trip gave us a strong gauge of where we stand. We scheduled two top teams in a span of 48 hours to help our guys see what we need to work on. There was more sense of urgency in our dual against No. 6 NC State and today we were not focused. Missouri is every bit of a top 4 team and they are just good. So our takeaway from this trip is you have to be consistent and focused every second  of every match," explained head coach Steve Martin.

To start off the dual, true freshman Michael McGee defeated his second ranked opponent this season with a win over No. 15 Barlow McGhee, 2-1 through three overtime periods.

"At 125 Michael McGee continues to wrestled with a veteran like presence in tough situations. To be able to win a match in OT by riding out a multiple NCAA qualifier takes alot of poise."

At 133, No. 8 John Erneste topped Caleb Richardson, 4-0.

"Caleb had two opportunities to put points on the board against a top eight opponent and you have do that in critical situations. He definitely is learning about himself each time he steps out on the mat."

In a match that showcased two nationally ranked wrestlers, No. 15 Alex Madrigal ended the match with an injury default to give the win to No. 4 Jaydin Eierman.

At 149, No. 12 Grant Leeth pinned Kenan Carter.

The NCAA second place finisher, Joey Lavallee topped Larry Early, 6-2 at 157.

"Larry Early also had opportunities to score against an NCAA finalist and he learned some things about himself, too."

The Tigers followed to take the next four matches over the Monarchs to round up the dual.

"As a team we still have some weights that are unsettled so we will let the guys figure that out when they compete. There is no question that we have to continue to improve technically, mentally, and physically.  This is a young group of guys that has the ability to make some waves at the NCAA tournament in March, so we will go back to the drawing board and continue to improve so we can compete to our potential each and every second of every match."
