NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s tennis team will begin spring play this Saturday, Jan. 13 by hosting a double-header at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center against C-USA opponent Florida Atlantic at 10:00 a.m. and then Morgan State at 4:00 p.m. Admission for all is free.

Florida Atlantic finished last season with a record of 11-11. FAU is home to the No. 2 nationally ranked singles player in Aliona Bolsova.

Morgan State ended last year with an overall record of 7-11, but went 4-2 in conference play.

A year after finishing with an overall record of 11-10, the Monarchs enter their spring season after a successful fall tournament campaign. At the William & Mary Invitational, Yulia Starodubtseva, Louie McLelland and Nataliia Vlasova went undefeated. A few weeks later at the Seahawk National Invitational, Adriana Rajkovic went a perfect 3-0 in her matches, while the team went 7-1 in doubles. Old Dominion continued its solid play at the Hokie Fall Invite to close out the fall schedule, winning four of six singles flights as well as the top doubles flight.

Looking Ahead for the Tennis Monarchs
Following their match against the Bears, the Monarchs will travel to Virginia for their first road contest of the spring. The Monarchs then return home for five of their next six matches to square-off against Tennessee, Richmond, Navy, C-USA member Charlotte and Appalachian State, respectively. ODU’s only road contest during that period will be at VCU on Jan. 30.

After that stretch, the Monarchs will go on the road for their next six matches against Oklahoma, Witchita State, Penn, Temple, C-USA foe Marshall and West Virginia. That road trip spans from Feb. 10 to March 4.

Old Dominion will end the season with seven straight home matches beginning on March 9 at 1:00 p.m. against Virginia Tech. The Monarchs will also welcome Tulane, Georgetown, Boston University, as well as two conference opponents in Middle Tennessee and North Texas before finishing the season on April 13 against William & Mary. The Conference USA tournament begins on April 19, which will be on the campus of Old Dominion University.
