ODU Leads Pinehurst After Day One

PINEHURST, N.C. - The Old Dominion University men's golf team shot a day one's best of 286 (+2) in round one (of three) and leads all teams at the 2013 Pinehurst Intercollegiate tournament.

Ashton Newsom birdied four holes and made par on 12 others to complete a first round score of 70 (-1). Newsom currently finds himself tied for fourth with four other golfers.

John Dawson shot a 71-par in his first 18 holes of competition and is now tied for ninth place. Jamison Randall is tied in 12th after finishing the first round one-over while shooting a 72. Garth McGee and Thomas Wilde both shot 73's and are currently tied for 19th.

The Monarchs shot five strokes better than Villanova and VCU, who are currently tied in second place after each shooting a 291 (+7), respectively today. UNCG (+8) and Ball State (+9) round out the top five scores after day one.

Marshall's Nathan Kearns shot a round-one best 68 (-3). Taylor Coalson (UNCG) and Jake McNulty (VCU) are tied for second after each shooting a 69 today.

Day two action will take place throughout tomorrow in Pinehurst, N.C.
