Wintry Weather at Head of the Schuylkill

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Old Dominion women's rowing team managed to get a pair of races in despite the wintry conditions at this year's Head of the Schuylkill. The Open Four placed third, while the Frosh/Novice Eight took fourth. The varsity eight events in the afternoon were canceled.

The Open Four boat placed third out of 38 and was the top collegiate boat to finish. The Vesper Boat Club won the event in a time of 15:05.47, followed by Undine Barge Club of Philadelphia in second with a time of 15:21.65, and the Lady Monarchs in third clocking in at 15:40.22. Old Dominion held a nearly 11 second advantage over fourth place Villanova.

In the Frosh/Novice Eight race, the Lady Monarchs were fourth out of the 28 boat field. Pennsylvania finished in first place with a time of 14:49.23, while Drexel placed second finishing with a time of 15:00.73, and Bucknell in third with a time of 15:02.52. The Lady Monarchs rowed to a fourth place time of 15:08.26, finishing over eight seconds ahead of fifth place Trinity.

The Old Dominion women's rowing team travels to the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tennessee next.
