HAMPTON, Va. - The No. 12 Old Dominion University coed sailing team qualified for the 2013 ICSA/Gill Dinghy Coed National Championships behind their strongest performance of the season over the weekend as they took second place in the Eastern Division of the ICSA Dinghy Coed National Semifinals co-hosted by ODU at Hampton University.

With the top nine teams advancing out of each 18-team division, the Monarchs finished second in the eastern division with 134 points behind only No. 2 Stanford, who won the division with 118 points. ODU's A-Division tandem of senior skipper and team captain Dillon Paiva along with junior crew Chloe Constants and freshman Crew Cooper Paiva took fourth place with 73 points. ODU's outstanding racing duo of freshman skipper Esteban Forrer and junior crew Julia Wiesner captured the B-Division title with 54 points.

Also advancing to nationals out of the eastern division (sailed in ODU's fleet) was No. 9 Roger Williams, No. 11 Dartmouth, No. 3 Brown, No. 8 Navy, No. 15 Florida, No. 17 SUNY Maritime and No. 20 Virginia. In the western division (sailed in Hampton's fleet), No. 6 Yale captured the title with 112 points, followed by No. 1 Georgetown, No. 13 Hobart and William Smith, No. 14 MIT, No. 10 St. Mary's (Md.), No. 7 Tufts, No. 5 Boston College, No. 4 College of Charleston and Wisconsin.

"The team sailed very well this weekend and helped put on a great event," said head coach Mitch Brindley. "Esteban and Julia really put it together at the end of the day today and as always Dillon, Chloe and Cooper were very solid. We have been focusing on the process and the results this weekend payed out."
