Longwood Defeats ODU, 6-4

FARMVILLE, VA--Frank Berry and Jon Quigley doubled in two of Longwood's final three runs to lift the Lancers (7-2) to a 6-4 victory over Old Dominion (5-3) Tuesday Afternoon.
Longwood took a 2-0 lead after four innings, but the Monarchs tied the game with two in the sixth as Mike Zahm(Omaha, NE) doubled home Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.) and David Burns (Jacksonville, Fl.) later singled home Zahm.
The Lancers regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth, but the Monarchs tied it at three in the top of the seventh on Nick Erdman's sacrifice fly which plated Anthony Shawler. In the bottom of the seventh Quigley doubled in Tyler Ames to give Longwood a 4-3 lead. Later in the inning, Quigley would score on a wild pitch. Longwood added another in the eighth inning as Frank Berry doubled home Topher Ellis for a 6-3 lead.
The Monarchs plated one more run in the ninth as Erdman scored from third with the bases loaded on Zahm's RBI fielders choice groundout with two outs.
Zahm along with Tyler Belcher each had two hits and freshman Gerard Hall Had three hits. Zahm knocked in two runs for ODU. Tyler Ames led Longwood with three hits. Ryan Rowe picked up the win and Frank Berry got the save. ODU returns to action Wednesday with a 3 p.m. home game against the Spartans of Norfolk State.
