- The Old Dominion University women's sailing team will begin their quest to advance to the 2013 ICSA Sperry Top-Sider Women's National Championships in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Tuesday.

The four-day event runs Tuesday, May 21 - Friday, May 24. The first two days will see 18 teams competing for nine spots in the finals on Thursday and Friday.

Old Dominion joins Georgetown, Hobart & William Smith, Cornell, Wisconsin, Michigan, Rhode Island, Dartmouth, Tufts, Connecticut College, Roger Williams, Coast Guard, Brown, Western Washington, Hawai'i, Santa Clara, South Florida and Eckerd in the semifinal field where the top nine finishers advance.

The nine teams that have already qualified for Thursday and Friday's finals by winning their district championship include St. Mary's (Md.), Navy, Minnesota, Boston College, Yale, Washington, Stanford, College of Charleston and Texas.

The Lady Monarchs qualified for the event for the fifth consecutive year after earning a fifth place finish on April 21 in the MAISA Women's Championships in Hampton. In the A-Division race, junior skipper Corina Radtke and senior crew Shannon Wilkins along with junior crew Rachel Austin placed seventh with 77 points while sophomore skipper Andrea Luna and junior Alexa Cavalieri took third with 52 points in the B-Division race as ODU accumulated 129 points.
