CHARLESTON, SC-- The Bulldogs of The Citadel defeated ODU, 5-2 in game three of the Homewood Suites Shootout at Riley Park.

ODU (5-3) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Josh Wright led off the inning with a solo homer to left field and Brent Frazier walked and later scored on a double play.

The Citadel took the lead with three runs in the fourth William Ladd singled home Brad Felder, Joe Jackson then doubled home Ladd and Drew DeKerlegand. In the fifth Matt Simonelli doubled in Nick Orvin for the fourth run

Phil McCarthy went the distance for ODU as only two of the five runs were earned. He walked just one and fanned three. Austin Pritcher of The Citadel was the winner, fanning seven in seven innings of work. Drew Mahaffey came on for his first save of the year. The two held the Monarchs to five hits on the day.

Josh Wright led ODu with two of the five hits, while Nathan Hartman, Edgar Hernandez and Brent Frazier had one hit each.

The two teams will play again on Sunday.
