Monarchs Travel To Rhode Island For Tournament

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Soccer Monarchs (0-1) travel to Kingston, RI to play in the University of Rhode Island Tournament Friday and Sunday.

ODU, who lost to top ranked and defending national champion Maryland last week in front of the largest crowd in ODU soccer stadium history (3,331) opens with Harvard(0-0) on Friday, then Rhode Island on Sunday (1-0).

Harvard was 6-8-2 last year and will be led by senior forward Charles Altchek who scored 11 goals for the Crimson. Junior goalkeeper Adam Hahn also returns.

Rhode Island is the defending Atlantic 10 champion who opened the season with a 2-1 victory over Providence last week. Jeffrey Gonsalve and Callum Bissett each scored for the Rams.

ODU and Rhode Island played last year in the Stihl Classic with the Monarchs winning, 1-0.

The Monarchs then travel to Elon for a match on Sept. 6 in Elon,NC.

ODU ranks 20th by College Soccer News, 22nd by Soccer America and 23rd by the coaches NSCAA/adidas and Soccer Times.
