Lady Monarchs Rally To Defeat UNCG, 2-1

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. (Sept. 15) - Melanie McGovern's (Somerdale, NJ.) second half goal lifted the Lady Monarchs of Old Dominion University to a 2-1 non-conference victory over UNC Greensboro Sept. 15 in the first round of the William and Mary Women's Soccer Tournament. The Lady Monarchs are now 3-3 on the season. UNCG is 2-3-1.

Megan Bynum put UNCG on the board first with 20:40 into the first half. Old Dominion tied the match as freshman Diane Baucom (Va. Beach, Va.) scored on an assist from Shibaugh Stevens (Penfield, NY.) with 31:32 into the second half.

McGovern's game winner came with 5:54 left in the match on an assist from Jen Henley (Chalfont, Pa.). Old Dominion outshot UNCG, 14-12. Junior Alison Kinsler (Va. Beach, Va.) came up with five saves for the Lady Monarchs.

Old Dominion will play Seton Hall on Sunday at 12:00 noon in the second round of the Tournament in Williamsburg, Va..
