Verlander Honored Again - ODU Hosts Charleston Southern Tuesday

NORFOLK, VA -- ODU Junior outfielder Ben Verlander hit .632 (12-19) with two homers, six runs scored and three RBI's in ODU's 3-1 week, and was named CAA Co-Player of the Week. The Monarchs return to action Tuesday afternoon when they host Charleston Southern at 3 p.m.

Verlander multiple hits in all four games, including 5-for-6 effort in game three of the Towson series. This is his second honor in the last three weeks. He is currently hitting .470 with a CAA best eight homers along with 15 RBI. He shares the weekly honor with Jimmy Yezzo of Delaware. Verlander's .470 batting average currently ranks fourth nationally.

Charleston Southern out of the Big South is led iin hitting by Bobby Ison with a .333 batting average and 15 RBI. Tory Schroff is 3-1 with a 2.60 ERA. The Bucs will start Kevin Buran (0-5/4.13 ERA) Tuesday.This is the first ever meeting between the two schools.

The Monarchs went 3-1 last week, defeating Virginia State and taking two of three CAA games from Towson.

Outfielder/DH Ben Slaton is hitting .346 with 16 RBI, followed by freshman centerfielder Connor Myers at .325 and a team best five steals. Leftfielder Josh Eldridge leads the team in RBI with 21 and has three homers.

On the mound, Brad Gero (3-2) and Jake Joseph's (3-1) lead in the wins department. Joseph's will start Tuesday's game. Junior Dean Ali has a 2.18 ERA, followed by Andy Roberts at 2.30. Ali also has 32 strikeouts in 33 innings of work.
