CAMDEN, N.J. - Old Dominion's Varsity Eight placed third and the Varsity Four took fifth in the Grand Final of the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River Sunday.

The Lady Monarchs were among over 50 schools from across the country competing in this weekend's regatta. Old Dominion advanced to the Grand Final after winning their respective heats in the regatta's quarterfinals and semifinals.

"The racing was fantastic on the whole," said head coach Dan Garbutt. "I think the weekend further demonstrated this teams development over the past months. All three boats that competed this weekend - Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, & Varsity Four - finished with marked improvement over last spring. The field of competition was deep and this was the first time ODU has attempted to field a V8 in the Knecht Cup."

The Varsity Eight rowed to a third-place finish with a time of 6:53.50. Grand Valley won the race in a time of 6:47.61, while Rutgers took second with a time of 6:47.61. The Lady Monarchs finished ahead of shells from Duke, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The Varsity Four meanwhile placed fifth in the seven-boat field of the Grand Final. The Lady Monarchs rowed to a time of 7:58.71. UMass placed first in the event with a time of 7:46.20, followed by Buffalo in second (7:49.96), Duke in third (7:53.41), and Villanova in fourth (7:54.06). Old Dominion finished ahead of both Boston College and Kansas.

The Old Dominion women's rowing team returns to the water on Friday, April 15th and Saturday, April 16th when they compete against Bucknell and Colgate

"I am excited to see the continued growth and development of this young team," added Garbutt.
