ODU Rowing Announces Spring Schedule
Dec. 1, 2008
Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion University women's rowing coach Heather Weisel released the Lady Monarchs spring schedule today, a slate that includes a mixture of large traditional regattas and smaller races against some of the top 20 programs in the country. The schedule provides this very young ODU team an opportunity to experience racing in both the heat to final format, as well as the head to head format.
"Coming out of a fall season that got everyone fired up, the team has already demonstrated a tremendous work ethic for the first few weeks of winter training," added Weisel. "We're fortunate here in Norfolk, we can train indoors and outdoors during the offseason. This gives us a lot of opportunities for cross training leading into our Spring Training trip to Florida which ends in our first spring race ever. It's going to be an exciting first spring season for us!"
That excitement begins on March 29 when the Lady Monarchs open at home with Class Day, an intrasquad event.
A dual meet against the Tigers of Clemson in South Carolina on April 4 kicks off the season, a week before ODU heads to Cherry Hill, N.J. to participate in the Knecht Cup on April 10 and 11. Hosted by Villanova, the Knecht Cup hosts over 50 schools from California to Maine, and Wisconsin to Florida.
On April 18 the Lady Monarchs travel to Philadelphia for the Kerr Cup/Colonial Athletic Association Regatta. The month closes out on April 25 with a dual meet against the University of North Carolina at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh.
Following their trip to North Carolina, the Lady Monarchs head to Camden County, N.J. for the ECAC Metro League Rowing Championships on May 2. A return to Philadelphia On May 9 and 10 will mark of the end of the season for ODU at the Dad Vail Regatta, the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, with over 100 colleges and universities from the U.S. and Canada.
