LaValle Takes Fifth As Monarchs Wrap Up Competition at Southern Scuffle

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Redshirt sophomore Justin LaValle placed fifth at 141 pounds to lead all Monarchs at the annual Southern Scuffle at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn. on Monday.
LaValle advanced to the consolation semifinals at 141 pounds after North Carolina’s Evan Henderson forfeit and a win over Minnesota’s Seth Lange, 6-3. The Monarch was unable to get past Virginia's Nick Nelson, who won 6-0, to advance to the consolation finals. In the fifth place match, LaValle downed Appalachian State’s Mike Kessler, 6-3.
At 125 pounds, Rob Deutsch was eliminated in the consolation quarterfinals following a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to North Carolina’s Brian Bokoski. Also in the consolation quarterfinals, Tristan Warner was defeated by Chattanooga’s Brandon Wright at 165 pounds, 4-1.
Old Dominion returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 11 when they host Bucknell at the Ted Constant Convocation Center at 7:30 p.m.
