Lady Monarchs Row To Varsity 8 Win Over Kansas

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Old Dominion women's rowing team's spring schedule continued last weekend against Kansas and host Bucknell. The Lady Monarchs notched a victory over Kansas in the Varsity 8.

"We were racing in the fourth different combination of our lineup due to injuries this week," said head coach Dan Garbutt. "ODU's 6 seat sustained a leg injury during the race and the Varsity 8 had to rotate its lineup again to compete in the afternoon against Bucknell."

Old Dominion's Varsity 8 finished three seconds ahead of the Kansas boat with the Lady Monarchs winning the event in a time of 7:05.07, while the Jayhawks placed second with a finishing time of 7:08.29.

The ODU 2V boat finished well against difficult competition. but were outpaced by the Jayhawks. The Novice 4 boat, who has been competing in the Varsity 4 events all year continued to demonstrate improvement although losing to Kansas as well.

All three ODU boats, racing in augmented lineups from the morning races fell to Bucknell in the afternoon.

"Overall, this week demonstrated the resiliency of the young Lady Monarchs, as well as their willingness to compete," noted Garbutt. "I couldn't be prouder of their efforts this weekend and season."

The Old Dominion women's rowing team hits the water again at the Kerr Cup (April 17th), followed by the Colonial Athletic Association Championships (April 25th), and the Dad Vail Regatta (May 7-8).
