Silver's Six RBI's Lead Monarchs Past Charlotte, 9-5

    NORFOLK, VA -- Senior designated hitter Travis Silver (Weaverville, NC.) Knocked in six runs with a grandslam in the first and a two-run single in the second to lead Old Dominion past Charlotte, 9-5 Saturday afternoon. ODU improves to 4-12, while Charlotte is 6-8.

    The Monarchs exploded for seven runs in the first as Silver knocked in Jeff Eure(Pillow, Pa.) , John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.), and Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.). Later that inning Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.) Hit his first collegiate homer.

    In the ODU second, Silver singled home Eure and Oehler to give the Monarchs a 9-0 lead.

    Charlotte scored four runs in the sixth as Brian Bowman, knocked in a run. Bowman and Derek Dixon scored an unearned run and George Sandel scored on a wild pitch. In the eighth, Thomas Bowker doubled in Dixon to complete their scoring.

    Shawn Weaver (Loganton, Pa.) picked up his first win of the season and Jonathan Tinkham got the save. The two teams play again on Sunday at 1 p.m.
