John Nicholson Named CAA Wrestler of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association announced Tuesday that ODU redshirt sophomore John Nicholson was named the co-Wrestler of the Week along with Hofstra’s Justin Accordino and Donnie Vinson of Binghamton.
Nicholson (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt), currently ranked No. 27 by WrestlingReport.com, went a perfect 4-0 for ODU at the 10th annual CAA Duals on Saturday in Fairfax. The 157-pounder picked up a pair of technical falls and a major decision while outscoring his opponents, 70-26 on the day.
Currently riding a nine-match win streak. Nicholson has won 10 times in 11 bouts in 2012 while improving his overall record to 19-5 and 4-1 in the CAA. He is 14-3 in dual action and 14 of his 19 wins this season have come via tech fall or major decision. His CAA-leading 10 major decisions is tied for forth most nationally.
This is the second consecutive week the Monarchs have been awarded with a CAA Wrestler of the Week as sophomore Tristan Warner (165) took the award last week while redshirt freshman Jerome Robinson (125) capture CAA Rookie of the Week Honors. Back in November, senior Te Edwards (174) was named the CAA Wrestler of the Month while freshman Pete Baldwin (149) was tabbed as the CAA Rookie of the Month.
The Monarchs return to action on Saturday, Jan. 28 when they travel to Buies Creek, N.C. to face the Campbell at 1 p.m. and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m.
