NORFOLK, VA--Freshman pitcher Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, VA.) and reliever Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, Va.) scattered six hits and fanned nine as the Monarchs of Old Dominion (29-3/12-0) defeated the Dukes of James Madison (19-10/9-3), 3-1. ODU sweeps the series and has now won 18 straight games, tying the 1985 Sun Belt Conference champions with the longest single season win streak since ODU went Division I in 1976-77.

The ODU school record for consecutive wins in one season is 21 set in 1964 by the NCAA Div. II East Regional championship team. The overall school mark of 26 straight wins is over two season, 1964 and 65.

In the ODU first, Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.) led off with a single, stole second and third, then came home on Mike Zahm's(Omaha, NE.) hit. Miles now leads the CAA with 31 stolen bases. ODU scored two unearned runs in the third, with Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, Va.) and Mike Zahm on base and two outs. Dana Arrowood's fly ball was dropped by JMU leftfielder Joe Lake allowing both Keenan and Zahm to score.

The Dukes lone run came on a solo homer by secondbaseman Michael Cowgill. It was his 13th of the season and 200th career hit at JMU.

Hudson (5-0) pitched 7.2 innings, striking out five, with two walks and only four hits. Dana Arrowood came on to get the strikeout with two out in the eighth and a runner on first. Arrowood got in to a jam in the ninth with one out as Dan Santobianco singled and Joe Lake doubled to put runners on second and third. Arrowood then struck out the next two batters for his sixth save of the year, and third this week.

Chris Keenan led ODU with two hits, while Joe Lake also had two hits for JMU. The Dukes Kellen Kulbacki, the nations leading hitter (.510) saw his 24-game hit streak come to an end as he went hitless in four at bats.

ODU returns to action on Tuesday night for its annual scholarship exhibition game with the Norfolk Tides, the New York Met's AAA affiliate. Game time is 7:15 at Harbor Park. ODU then returns to CAA action with a three-game series at Hofstra, beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
