Shefka & Burok Hurl Combined Shutout

NORFOLK, VA. - Freshman Ricky Shefka (Kinston, NC. ) and sophomore James Burok scattered nine hits and combined for a 8-0 victory over the Bears of Brown Friday afternoon. Shefka fanned a career high eight batters in six innings of work and issued no walks. ODU wins it's second straight to improve to 7-12.
Leading the Monarchs hit parade was junior outfielder Derek James (Terre Haute, IN.) with three hits and two runs batted in. James also scored three times. Senior catcher John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.) slammed a two-run homer in ODU's five-run sixth inning. Oehler had three RBI on the day. Senior Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, PA.) also had two hits on the day for ODU.
The shutout was ODU's second of the season. James Burok fanned two in the three innings he worked with no walks.
Brown was led by Robert Deeb with three hits, while James Lowe and Cameron Mitchell each had two hits on the day. Brown loaded the bases in the top of the first inning with two out, but Shefka pitched his way out of the jam.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m., then a single game on Sunday.
