FAIRFAX STATION, Va. -- The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs will be one of six teams to vie for this year's title at the 2011 Virginia 529 College Savings Plan CAA Rowing Championship, which is set to get underway on Sunday, April 24 at Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax Station, Va.

The championship, hosted by George Mason, will begin with the Varsity 4 race at 9:30 a.m. with the Second Varsity 8 race to follow at 9:45 a.m. The Varsity 8 at 10:05 a.m. marks the final event of the championship.

The league's six squads will hit the waters of the Occoquan Reservoir in each of these three events in their pursuit of this year's conference crown.

Old Dominion has had impressive spring season thus far. The Lady Monarchs cruised Colgate and won two of three races against five-time Patriot League champion Bucknell a week ago. Also this spring, the Lady Monarchs' Varsity Four and Varsity Eight both reached the Grand Finals of the Knecht Cup in their respective races with the Varsity Eight taking third and the Varsity Four placing fifth.

Buffalo, the 2010 CAA champion, is looking for its second straight title after capturing five top-five finishes at the Knecht Cup earlier in April and most recently swept a strong Grand Valley State squad on the road.

After winning the inaugural CAA title in 2009, Northeastern opened April by claiming all four events to top Boston College and Rhode Island and then earned runner-up honors in the Orange Cup a week later.

Drexel locked up the Lela Kerr Cup last week after securing three second-place finishes at the Knecht Cup the week before, while Mason tallied two top finishes and another pair of runner-up showings at the Occoquan Sprints earlier this month. Delaware scored an impressive runner-place finish in the Second Varsity 8 at the Knecht Cup as well.
