No. 21 ODU Defeats AU in Exhibition Match

WASHINGTON - The 21st ranked Old Dominion University soccer Monarchs defeated American University, 3-1 In their final exhibition match, as junior Trevor Banks pumped in two goals.
The Monarchs staked a 3-0 lead in the first 45 minutes on a pair of goals by Trevor Banks and one by T.J. Beaulieu. Banks opened the scoring just seven minutes in when he headed in a corner by Dylan Montabo. In the 30th minute, Banks scored again when he beat a defender in the box and fired a low roller that tucked inside the left post. That was all ODU would need, but A.J. Kulp beautiful through-ball in the 40th minute sprung Beaulieu for a one-on-one with the keeper.
American got its only goal when Anthony Moy (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) found himself with only the keeper in front of him in the 80th minute.
The Monarchs open the regular season Aug. 31 (vs. Wake Forest) and Sept 2 (vs. North Carolina) in the UNC Tournament.
