NORFOLK, Va. -- The ODU women's soccer team (7-1), ranked #25 in the nation by Soccer America Magazine, will open the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) season with a home game against Georgia State (7-2) on Friday night. The Lady Monarchs will then travel to UNC Wilmington to play the Seahawks on Sunday at 2:00 pm. Kick-off for the game against the Panthers is set for 7:00 pm, and admission is free to students with a valid ID. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for children, seniors, military and faculty/staff.

The first CAA game of the season will be a pivotal one for the Lady Monarchs as they face a loaded Georgia State offense. After starting the season 6-0, the Panthers have lost two of its last three games, though, with the win coming in overtime. Led by senior Kay Harbrueger who is ranked 2nd in the nation in scoring, the Panthers have been shutout just once and are outscoring opponents 26-7. The team has posted three wins on the road this season.

ODU holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series over Georgia State. The Panthers won the game in Georgia last year, 3-0.

On Sunday, ODU will travel to Wilmington, North Carolina for the Lady Monarchs' split weekend. The Seahawks are regionally ranked and will provide a test for the Lady Monarchs defense, which has posted five shutouts already this season. The team played a tough schedule early, struggling to a 1-3-1 start before reeling off three straight victories headed into this weekend.

ODU boasts a 10-5-1 all-time advantage over the Seahawks. UNCW has won two straight, though, including a 5-1 win in Norfolk last season.

Old Dominion is led offensively by seniors Shavon Knight (18pts-7g, 4a) and Katie Watson (14pts-6g, 2a). Knight ranks in the nation's top twenty in points and goals per game. As a team, the Lady Monarchs are outscoring opponents 24-5 and are outshooting opponents nearly 4-to-1. The scoring offense is ranked 14th in the nation while the defense has posted the 34th best goals against average, at 0.61 goals per contest.

Live stats of Friday night's game will be available here. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 pm.

Live video presented through Monarch All-Access will also be available at odusports.com, contingent on weather conditions.
