Delaware Defeats Monarchs, 9-2

NEWARK, DE--The University of Delaware (14-7/3-1) defeated the Monarchs of Old Dominion (6-14/1-3), 9-2 Friday with the help of three homers and the strong pitching Of Brian Rorick who fanned nine batters on the day.
The Monarchs were led by Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va. )and Max Most (Port Washington, NY.) who both had two hits on the day. Corsner slammed his fourth homerun of the season in the ninth inning. ODU's first run came on an RBI single in the eight by Gerard Hall ( Washington, DC.) which plated Austin Wright.
Bill Merkler put UD out in front with a solo homer in the second inning. Carlos Alonso hit a homer in the third for a 2-0 Delaware lead. In the fourth Ryan Cuneo doubled home Two runs after Kyle Davis singled home a run.
Cuneo then homered in the seventh inning. Cuneo finished with four hits and five runs batted in on the day. Ryan Reed and Kyle Davis each Had two hits for UD.
Delaware starter Brian Rorick pitched eight innings, fanning nine and allowing just five hits. Because of impending bad weather, the two teams will play a double-header beginning at 11 am Saturday at Bob Hannah Stadium.
