Men's Tennis Wins Second At VCU 4-1 Invitational With 5-0 Victory Over Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Old Dominion tennis team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 5-0 victory over Richmond at the Virginia Commonwealth 4-1 Invitational late Sunday night. Through their first four matches of the 2006 spring season, the Monarch men's tennis team has not allowed an opponent to record a single match point.
Like they have in three of their four previous matches, the Monarchs captured straight set victories in all of their singles matches. Highlighting singles play was Harel Srugo (Kibutz Gazit, Israel) who did not give up a single game in his No. 1 singles match. Srugo defeated the Spiders' Bobby McNally, 6-0, 6-0.
In other singles matches, Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) defeated Sami Belakhlef, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. No. 90 Eidy Igarashi (São José do Rio Preto, Brazil) defeated Chris Louis, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Alex Seleznev (Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic) picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Michael Sommer at No. 4 singles.
In the lone doubles match, Rodrigo Souza (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Matt Sandes (Nassau, Bahamas) teamed up for a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Richmond's Doug Banker and Brett Waikart.
The Monarchs return to action on Friday in two matches. Old Dominion takes on UNC-Greensboro on noon and Norfolk State at 8:00 p.m. Both matches will take place at Center Court Racket Club in Newport News.
