Monarchs Take On Michigan Tuesday In NIT Semi-Final Game

ODU advanced to the NIT semi-finals for the first time ever after beating CAA rival Hofstra, 61-51. Isaiah Hunter scored a career high 29 points, while Arnaud Dahi added ten points, and three steals. ODU's defense held the Pride to .317 shooting from the floor. Hofstra only scored 21 points in the second half. The Monarch win ended Hofstra's 21-game home streak. ODU is 28-2 the last two years at home, with both losses to Hofstra. The last time Hofstra lost at home was to the Monarchs.

Valdas Vasylius hit two free throws with 1.5 seconds left on the clock to help the Monarchs defeat Manhattan, 70-66 in round two of the NIT. Alex Loughton led the Monarchs with 20 points and nine rebounds. Arnaud Dahi added 13 points and becomes the 42nd Monarchs to go over the 1,000 career point mark. He now has 1013 career points. ODU outrebounded Manhattan, 44-37 and forced the Jaspers into 18 turnovers.

The Monarchs won their opening round game at Colorado, 79-61. Isaiah Hunter led with a career high tying 28 points, while Arnaud Dahi got 16 points and ten boards. ODU outrebounded the Buffaloes, 45-35.

ODU played in the 1984-85 ECAC Holiday Festival. The Monarchs lost to St. John's 77-66, then beat Rutgers 82-80. ODU went on to compile a 19-10 record, reached the Sun Belt finals and earned an atlarge berth to the NCAA tournament. In that tournament All American Kenny Gattison scored 16 points with ten rebounds vs. St. John's and 31 points and 13 rebounds against Rutgers. The Rutgers coach Tom Young would be ODU's head coach the following year. Gattison is now an assistant coach with the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.

Series: This is the first meeting between the two schools.

ODU lost to Wisconsin earlier this year 84-81 in the finals of the Paradise Jam tournament in St. Thomas, VI.

Last year, ODU played Michigan State in the NCAA first round in Worcester, MA. The Spartans won, 89-81. The Monarchs have never beaten a team from the Big Ten. ODU has never played Louisville.

Amaker is 1-1 vs ODU. As a player, his Duke squad defeated the Monarchs, 89-61 in the second round of the NCAA tournament in 1986 in Greensboro, NC. As a coach, his Seton Hall squad lost to the Monarchs in the 1999 NIT first round, 75-56 at ODU.

Senior Isaiah Hunter became the 41st Monarch to break the 1,000 career point mark. He did it in the first half of the VMI game and now has 1422 career points which ranks him 17th. Alex Loughton has 1642 career points and 943 career rebounds. He currently ranks 10th . In rebounding, Loughton ranks seventh. He is the 14th Monarch to reach 1500 career points.
STEALING: Loughton also has 159 career steals. He is the only non-guard in ODU's top-10 career steals list. Arnaud Dahi became the 42nd Monarch to go over the 1,000 career point mark. He did it against Manhattan. Dahi now has 1013
