Princeton, NJ - Two members of the Old Dominion Lady Monarch tennis team have been regionally recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as announced recently.
Freshman Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel) was named the ITA East Region Rookie of the Year as well as Player to Watch. She finished the dual match season with a perfect 23-0 record and set a new record for most singles wins in a season (45-3) en route to a #5 national ranking.
Head Coach Darryl Cummings earned the nod as the Wilson/ITA East Region Coach of the Year as he led his squad to its first-ever CAA championship and accompanying appearance in the NCAA Tournament. As regional winners, both he and Cahana are up for national recognition. National award winners will be announced May 20.
Cahana and junior Ana Radeljevic (Zagreb, Croatia) will represent Old Dominion in the 64-player singles field at the national championships in Stone Mountain, Georgia. The doubles tandem will also participate in the 32-team doubles draw. The national championships will run May 21-26.
