Lady Monarchs Blank CAA Rival James Madison, 2-0

Junior midfielder Marina DiGiacomo scored ODU's first goal in the 2-0 victory over James Madison.

NORFOLK, VA (Oct. 23) - The defending national champion Old Dominion field hockey team blanked Colonial Athletic Association rival and ninth-ranked James Madison, 2-0, at Foreman Field. The #7 Lady Monarchs improve to 12-5 overall (5-0 CAA) while the Dukes fall to 12-5 overall (3-1 CAA).

Old Dominion pushed in one goal per half for the win. Junior midfielder Marina DiGiacomo (Mendoza, Argentina) connected for the game's first goal on a pass from Becky Loy (Loysville, Pa.). In the second half, Julie Miracle (Audubon, Pa.) found the back of the net on a corner play, with assists to Adrienne Yoder (Coopersburg, Pa.) and Ashleigh Miller (West Vancouver, BC, Canada).

With the victory, Old Dominion clinched a #1 seed in the CAA Tournament to be held in Harrisonburg, Virginia November 5-7. The Lady Monarchs have collected a string of 29 consecutive CAA conference wins, dating back to 1996. For the fourth straight season, Old Dominion finished the regular season with an undefeated CAA season.

The Lady Monarchs will return to action Sunday with a 1 pm contest against Radford. Next weekend, Old Dominion will close out the regular season with the AstroTurf Surfaces Scholarship Weekend games against North Carolina (Saturday at 1pm) and Princeton (Sunday at 1 pm).
