NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion took on the Drexel Dragons (4-4-1, 0-2-0) Sunday afternoon and came away with a 1-0 victory for their first CAA win of the season. Old Dominion improves their record to 5-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference with the win at home. Lizzy Brewster knocked home the game-winner in the 62nd minute off an assist from Kirstin Walker.

Walker received the ball off a pass from the back line and dribbled past one defender before chipping the ball over the top of the Dragon defenders. Brewster made the run and poked the ball into the lower right corner for the goal.

The goal was Brewster's fifth of the season, tying her for the team-lead. She now has 11 points on the season and two goals in conference play.

The first half was shifty and turned into a ball control battle. ODU took eight shots to Drexel's six in the first frame. Drexel keeper Kaitlin Bond made two saves in the half.

The Lady Monarch defense continued its season-long theme, stepping up the intensity in the second half, allowing just two shots. Opponents are averaging under four shots against ODU in the second half this season. Marilee Mastaler had an exceptional game in the center back position at the helm of the defense.

Junior keeper Lauren Tupman posted her first shutout of the season by making two saves and playing the entire match between the posts. Tupman also made a sensational diving stab at a corner kick that stopped one of Drexel's best opportunities going forward.

ODU outshot Drexel 15-8 in the match. The Dragons were led by Athena Yiantsos with two shots, one on-goal. Junior Shavon Knight paced the offensive attack for ODU with six shots, one on-net.

The Lady Monarchs hit the road for a four-game conference road trip starting with a game at Northeastern on Friday, Oct. 4 with kick-off set for 7:00 pm. ODU will then travel to Hofstra, Virginia Commonwealth and James Madison before returning home to host George Mason Friday, October 19 at 7:00 pm.
