NORFOLK, VA - Freshman 133 pounder Ryan Williams and senior at 197 pounds Adam Wright will travel to Oklahoma City to represent Old Dominion University in the 2006 NCAA Division One Wrestling Championships. The event, hosted by the University of Oklahoma, will take place March 16-18.
Wright being no stranger to the NCAA's as a qualifier from last year and an alternate from the year before will have to wrestle Jeff Foust of Missouri to open the tournament. Wright had a very successful 2006 campaign collecting his third consecutive thirty-win season going 30-5 and leading the team in wins (30), and tech falls with five.
Williams, a freshman out of Mechanicsburg, PA started out as a backup at 133 pounds earlier this year, and has proven himself a contender. He led the team in pins with 10 and was second on the team for wins by decision with 16. Williams will be facing Missouri's Tyler McCormick in the first round bracket of the tournament.
"We feel our guys are ready and prepared to compete for All-American honors," says head coach Steve Martin.
