Shae Kelley Earns Second Team All-State Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore forward Shae Kelley of the Old Dominion University women’s basketball team was named Second Team All-State on Wednesday in the annual voting by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) for the 2013 University Division All-State Women’s Basketball Teams.
Liberty University’s redshirt senior guard Devon Brown as named the Player of the Year while Lady Flames’ head coach Carey Green is the Coach of the Year and Longwood University freshman guard Daeisha Brown was tabbed as the Rookie of the Year.
Kelley posted seven double-doubles this season and helped lead Old Dominion to the postseason for the 20th time in the past 22 seasons with a berth in the WNIT. The Denver, Colo. native led the team in scoring (13.5 ppg), rebounding (8.5 rpg), steals (73), blocks (36) and field goal percentage (49.7 percent). Kelley scored in double figures in 22 of the Lady Monarchs’ 31 games. She earned All-CAA Second Team honors after finishing in the top-10 in the league in scoring, rebounds, steals, blocks and field goal percentage.
Joining Liberty’s Brown on the VaSID First Team was Hampton University’s senior forward Keiara Avant, James Madison University’s senior guard Tarik Hislop and junior guard Kirby Burkholder and University of Virginia’s junior guard Ataira Franklin.
Along with Kelley, the VaSID Second Team features Longwood’s senior guard Chelsea Coward, William and Mary’s senior forward Emily Correal, Liberty’s senior center Tolu Omotola and Virginia Tech’s junior guard Monet Tellier.
