NORFOLK, VA (Oct. 8) -- Freshman midfielder Michael Tooley (Richmond, VA) scored in the 69th minute to lift Old Dominion to a 1-0 victory over CAA-rival James Madison in a battle between the two sixth-ranked teams in the South Atlantic Region.

Old Dominion maintains first place in the CAA with the win, moving to 4-0-0, 8-2-0, while JMU falls to 1-2-0, 7-4-1.

In one of the most physical contests of the CAA season, featuring eight yellow cards and three James Madison ejections, Tooley finally broke the scoreless tie with a 15 yard blast off the left side on an assist by freshman defender Anders Haugom (Gjovik, Norway).

The first half featured a defensive battle as both teams blasted off five shots but were unable to connect. In the second half, tempers flared as two James Madison players and an assistant coach were ejected on red cards, forcing the Dukes to play two men down after the Monarchs took the 1-0 advantage.

Monarch senior keeper Chuck Connelly (Rockville, MD) collected four saves to record the sixth Old Dominion shutout of the season and third in a row. The four CAA wins are the most for Old Dominion since 1995 and the eight overall wins tie last season's total.

Old Dominion returns to action on Wednesday, October 13, as they travel to Williamsburg to take on William and Mary at 7:00 pm.
