No. 68 Men's Tennis Posts Two Wins On Friday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The No. 68 Old Dominion men's tennis team improved its overall record to 9-5 overall with two victories on Friday afternoon at Center Court Racket Club in Newport News. The Monarchs prevailed over both Howard and American by identical 6-1 scores.

The afternoon opened against Howard. Old Dominion and Howard spilt at doubles with the Monarch team of Dom Manilla and Alexsander Seleznev earning the point with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles

Old Dominion needed only two sets in all five victories highlighted by Seleznev and Matthew Sands holding their opponent to just one game in their respective matches.

Harel Srugo, fresh off his upset against the nation's 57th-ranked player in the ITA Poll earlier in the week, defeated Kenneth Brown at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Eidy Igarashi, ranked at No. 90 in the country, posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles over the Bison's Othmane Garma. Seleznev earned a No. 3 singles win 6-0, 6-1, while Sands, playing at the No. 4 spot, took home a 6-1, 6-0 victory aganst Neilabh Avasthi. Jonathan Antle made his first dual meet appearance playing at No. 5 against the Bison and earning a 6-4, 6-0 win over Chad Jones.

The day continued with Old Dominion sweeping the doubles points and taking five of the six singles matches in its 6-1 win over American.

Doubles saw the Monarch duos of Harel Srugo and Aleksander Seleznev earn an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, Nate Grover and Matthew Sands take home an 8-7 win at No. 2 doubles, and Dom Manilla and Eidy Igarashi post an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

At No. 1 singles, Harel Srugo posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nicolas Frayssinoux. No. 90 Eidy Igarashi defeated Juancarlo Vazquez at No. 2 singles by a score of 6-4, 6-2. Aleksander Seleznev, playing at No. 3 singles, defeated Sebastien Proisy, 6-2, 6-2. Matthew Sands handed Andrew Singer a 6-3, 6-3 loss to No. 5 singles, while Dom Manilla downed Josh Levitz at No. 6 singles by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 1-0.

The Monarchs will return to action on February 24th against #11 Virginia.
