OLYMPIC SAILING UPDATE: Team USA Sails Past Finland and France and Into Third Place

WEYMOUTH, UK - Former Old Dominion University sailing standouts Anna Tunnicliffe and Debbie Capozzi guided the United States to a pair of victories on Tuesday and into third place in the round robin format of the Women's Elliott 6m match race.

The United States, with Tunnicliffe at skipper paired with Capozzi and Molly O'Bryan Vandemoer at crew defeated Finland despite trailing early at the first split by 0:02. The Americans then pushed ahead by splits of 0:04, 0:03 to finish 0:02 ahead of the Fins whose team consisted of skipper Silja Lehtinen and crew Silja Kanerva and Mikaela Wulff. 

In their second match of the day, the U.S. held off France with Claire Leroy at skipper along with Elodie Bertrand and Marie Riou at crew. The Americans had a huge lead of 0:20 at the first split and then held off the French who were in front by 0:04, 0:03 and 0:05 to earn the victory and push into a third place tie.

On Wednesday, the U.S. (2-2) faces New Zealand (3-3) at 9:00 a.m. (ET) and Russia (5-1) at 11:00 a.m. (ET) as round robin action continues at the Women's Elliott 6m match racing in Weymouth.
