OLYMPIC SAILING UPDATE: Team USA Downs Portugal, Falls to Australia

WEYMOUTH, UK - Former Old Dominion University sailing standouts Anna Tunnicliffe and Debbie Capozzi guided the United States to another split on Monday in the round robin format of the Women's Elliott 6m match race.

The United States, with Tunnicliffe at skipper paired with Capozzi and Molly O'Bryan Vandemoer at crew defeated Portugal with relative ease by splits of 0:08, 0:08 and 0:05 to finish 0:12 ahead of the Portugese whose team consisted of skipper Rita Gonclaves and crew Mariana Lobato and Diana Neves. 

In their second match of the day, the U.S. fell in a very tight race to Australia with Olivia Price at skipper along with Nina Curtis and Lucinda Whitty at crew. The Australians trailed the Americans at the first split by 0:05 but then led at mark two by 0:01 and again in the final split at 0:03 to finish just ahead of the U.S. overall for the victory.

On Tuesday, the U.S. (2-2) faces Finland (2-2) at 8:35 a.m. (ET) and France (2-2) at 10:30 a.m. (ET) as round robin action continues at the Women's Elliott 6m match racing in Weymouth.
