Delaware Rallies To Beat The Lady Monarchs 3-2

NORFOLK, VA - Shannon Alger's goal with three minutes remaining in the second half lifted the Delaware Fighting Blue Hens to a 3-2 victory over the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs in a CAA conference match-up Friday night. The loss ended ODU's seven game winning streak as ODU drops to 9-2-1, 3-1-0 in the CAA, and Delaware improved to 6-3-2, 3-1-0 in the CAA.
Senior midfielder Heather Vaughan (Virginia Beach, VA) scored both goals for Old Dominion; the first one at 36:57 was a header off a cross from Kim Snyder (Virginia Beach, VA). Vaughan then connected in the 52nd minute with an unassisted goal from 30-yards out, straight up the middle. She now has four goals for the season, and is second on the team in goals scored. ODU carried a 16-13 shot advantage, and a 7-1 corner kick edge.
Three minutes into the second half Shelby Lawrence connected off a pass from Mary Beth Creed. With less than ten minutes left to go in the game, Lindsey Boyd and Shannon Alger each scored for Delaware sealing the victory for the Fighting Blue Hens.
The Lady Monarchs return to action Sunday as they host Drexel at 7:00pm, at the Old Dominion Soccer Stadium.
