NORFOLK, VA-Old Dominion University men's golf coach Dr. Murray Rudisill announced that George Zolotas (Peabody, MASS.) and Mark Kerr (Edinburgh, Scotland) have signed national letters of intent to attend for the 2004-05 season. They join Kyle Hartlaub (Summit, NJ.) who signed during the early period.

"This may be one of the strongest recruiting classes we have had in recent years, " said Rudisill. "We know that Kyle has an excellent swing and lots of competition which will prepare him for golf on this level. Zolotas is ranked as one of the top golfers in the New England golf area. He can handle the pressure of big time tournaments. Mark Kerr has already shown he can play by playing number one position at Edinburgh for his two years. He will add maturity to a new group of players."

The 6-3 Kerr reached the final of the Lothian Championships. He also reached the round of 16 at the Scottish Amateur which was held at the famed St. Andrews course. He is a member Of the Scottish University national team and last week placed sixth at the Craigmillar Park Open. He shot 11-under par for 72 holes.

Kerr will be a junior next year and plans to major in business management at Old Dominion. He is the son of Gloria and James Kerr. "I was extremely impressed with the university, its international diversity as well as playing in an outstanding conference," said Kerr.

George Zolotas is 6-1 and attends St. John's prep. Last fall, he helped lead his team to the Conference Championship which they have won three of the last four years. Individually, Zolotas won the Catholic Conference and placed fifth at the State Championships.

Zolotas finished in the top 20 at the Junior Orange Bowl and qualified for the Independent Classic in New Jersey. He also had two top 15 performances in the AJGA this year. The son of Gail and Michael Zolotas, George plans to major in business at ODU. "The warm weather, the school and strong schedule is what made me decide on ODU," said Zolotas.

In the early signing period, ODU inked Kyle Hartlaub of the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton, FL. He was an alternate for the US Junior Amateur Last year and shot a 72-71 in the qualifier. He has already had two top ten finishes in AJGA tournaments.

The Monarchs led by sophomore Greg Sampson, who tied for second individually at the CAA Championships, placed second as a team and had eight top ten finishes during the year. ODU won the Mission Inn Tournament during the fall season.
