Cahana Advances to Second Round of Nationals

Stone Mountain, GA - Old Dominion freshman Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel) won her opening round match-up at the NCAA Individual Championships held at Lincoln Tennis Center at Stone Mountain, Georgia May 21-26.
Cahana, who was named the ITA's National Player to Watch, collected an impressive 46-3 record this season, setting a school record form most singles wins. She finished the dual match season with a perfect 23-0 record and captured the Colonial Athletic Association's Player and Rookie of the Year honors en route to a #5 national ranking.
In her first round match, Cahana topped Baylor's Katja Kovac by a three-set score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. She will continue on in the second round this week. Junior Ana Radeljevic (Zagreb, Croatia) lost her opening round match, a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Whitney Laiho of Florida. The two will also represent Old Dominion in the 32-team doubles draw.

Junior Mily Kannarkat (Virginia Beach, Va.) was named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District III Women's University Spring At-Large team, as selected and announced by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIIDA) earlier this week. It marks the second appearance on the squad for Kannarkat, who carries a 3.97 GPA in biology/pre-med. She collected a 20-2 record this past spring
