NORFOLK, VA (Oct. 29) - Freshman forward Diane Baucom (Va. Beach, VA) scored the only goal of the game to lift the Old Dominion women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over No. 25 Richmond on Oct. 29. With the win, the Lady Monarchs improve to a program best 13-7 overall, 5-3 CAA. Richmond drops to 12-6, 6-2 CAA.

Baucom scored her goal at 37:51, weaving in and out of the Spider backfield and launching a shot to the far post that beat Richmond goalie Kristin Samuhel. It was Baucom's fifth goal of the season, and would prove to be the game-winner as the Lady Monarchs withstood a late charge by the Spiders to clinch the win. Richmond outshot Old Dominion 14-9, including 9-2 in the second-half. Monarch goalie Tonya Dedmond (North Potomac, MD) was up to the challenge, registering eight saves on the day en route to her second shutout of the season.

Old Dominion is now 1-3 against nationally-ranked opponents this year, with today's win being just the second time ever the Lady Monarchs have defeated a ranked foe. Those three losses this year all came on the road at #6 Clemson, #22 William & Mary, and at #9 Duke.

The Lady Monarchs must now wait to see where they will be seeded for the CAA Tournament, Nov.2-5 at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Seeding for the tournament will be determined on Oct. 30.
